Germany's pharmacy emergency service is organised nationwide: every pharmacy takes rotating night and emergency duty, and the daily list is available via aponet.de, the Apothekenfinder and notices at every pharmacy, so several pharmacies across the Munich city area are open around the clock every night. That solves half the problem, if a valid prescription is in hand. The other half is the medical prescription itself. GPs are not reachable after 5 PM, the KVB walk-in clinics are not around the corner in every district, and on weekends your own practice is closed altogether. If the acute complaint requires a prescription-only drug, antibiotic for streptococcal angina, triptan for migraine, antiemetic for hyperemesis, cortisone inhaler for asthma exacerbation, first-line antihypertensive, a gap opens.

We fill that gap. We come, examine clinically (no prescription without diagnosis), issue the prescription and name the nearest on-duty pharmacy in Munich that stocks the drug. If needed we coordinate with the pharmacy by phone and can organise courier delivery for patients with limited mobility (lumbago, high fever, isolated seniors), Munich has several services that deliver prescription drugs rapidly.

Typical out-of-hours prescription needs

Antibiotics for documented streptococcal angina, suspected pneumonia, urinary infection; triptans for migraine; antiemetics for hyperemesis and norovirus-induced vomiting; cortisone inhalers and rescue spray for asthma exacerbation; first-line antihypertensives for hypertensive crisis; oral first-dose cortisone for acute obstructive bronchitis; antiallergic medication for severe reactions; analgesia for lumbago and acute renal colic (tramadol, metamizole as indicated); eye drops for acute conjunctivitis. On-duty pharmacies in Munich, how it works

The pharmacy emergency rota changes every day: each pharmacy takes its scheduled turn and is then open continuously, with the daily overview on aponet.de and the Apothekenfinder. We name you the nearest one, verify by phone whether the required drug is in stock before you go, and also find the nearest on-duty pharmacy for the surrounding area (Dachau, Freising, Germering, Starnberg). With impaired mobility (lumbago, high-fever patient, senior) we coordinate courier or delivery. For specialty drugs not every pharmacy stocks, we name the right duty pharmacy directly. We keep an eye on market coverage.

How a prescription house call works

You call. We record symptoms, address and insurance. We give a realistic window. On site: thorough examination, diagnosis, prescription. If a first dose is appropriate (e.g. first-dose antibiotic for positive streptococcus, IM triptan for acute migraine with vomiting), you get it directly from us. The prescription covers the rest of the course.

You receive the prescription, the next suitable on-duty pharmacy in Munich with address and phone, GOÄ invoice, behavioural rules, sick note if needed. GOÄ and prescription costs

The house call is billed under the GOÄ, typical cost EUR 150 to 300 depending on time of day. PKV reimburses fully. Self-payers pay directly. The prescription itself costs nothing; the medication is paid at the pharmacy (PKV submitted later, self-payers pay in full).
