Too busy for a practice, why the house call fits your working day

Hamburg is a working city. In the HafenCity, at the Elbbrücken, in the City Süd and around the Alster, hundreds of thousands of people work in corporations, law firms, agencies and start-ups, many with packed calendars and constant availability. A doctor's appointment during regular office hours between 8 AM and 6 PM often means half a lost working day, with the drive there, a crowded waiting room and the drive back. The result is familiar, infections drag on, check-ups get postponed, a harmless bronchitis turns into a two-week sick note. The private house call reverses that, the doctor comes to you, at the office, in the home office, at the hotel or at home, daily from 6 AM to midnight.

The practical advantage is large, and the clinical one just as much. Sitting in a crowded waiting room with a fever means catching a second infection and passing your own on, and a house call removes exactly that multiple exposure. Most complaints among professionals can be fully clarified on site, including febrile respiratory infections, sinusitis and bronchitis, gastrointestinal infections, back pain and tension after long desk days, migraine, stress-driven blood-pressure spikes and urinary-tract infections. Our case carries rapid tests for RSV, SARS-CoV-2, streptococcus, plus a pulse oximeter, portable ECG, otoscope and the medications for first-line treatment and prescription, so diagnosis and therapy are completed in a single visit of 20 to 40 minutes.

Most often professionals call us for acute infections that need fast treatment and a sick note without losing half a day in a waiting room. On top of that come back and neck problems after long days at the screen, migraine and tension headache, gastrointestinal complaints on business trips, stress-related circulatory and blood-pressure problems, and allergic reactions. Beyond acute care, many clients specifically ask for prevention, such as a health check, flu and travel vaccinations before a trip abroad, and advice on sleep, stress and nutrition. Regular prevention catches high blood pressure, raised blood lipids or early exhaustion long before they turn into weeks of absence.

Discretion at the office, in the HafenCity and the home office

Treatment at the workplace is routine for us. We agree with you whether the doctor is expected at the main entrance, the car park or directly at your company's reception in the HafenCity or City Süd, and whether a meeting room can serve as a quiet treatment space. The physician arrives in civilian clothing, the medical case is neutral, colleagues notice nothing. When you book you speak not to a call centre but to medical staff, and every consultation stays confidential. You receive prescription and sick note immediately, bilingually (German/English) on request for international employers.

How it works, from the call to the sick note

You call RAB Arztbesuche on 040 524 729 688 or book online. We take down your symptoms, the address (office, home office, hotel or apartment), preferred language and insurance status, and give you a realistic window, usually 60 to 90 minutes. A call in the early morning or late evening often means a shorter drive, because Hamburg traffic is lighter. The physician calls shortly before arrival.

On site the doctor examines you, runs the necessary rapid tests and treats immediately. The visit typically lasts 20 to 40 minutes. You receive a prescription, sick note and the GOÄ invoice, and can return to your desk straight away if fit for work. If the picture is more serious, for example suspected pneumonia with oxygen saturation under 92 %, we organise admission and name a suitable hospital such as the UKE, the Marienkrankenhaus or an Asklepios clinic.

Cost, GOÄ and reimbursement

All services are billed strictly according to the German Medical Fee Schedule (GOÄ). Self-payers receive a transparent invoice itemised by GOÄ code, while privately insured and Beihilfe-entitled patients submit it to their insurer and are usually reimbursed in full. On request we issue the invoice with an English translation of the diagnosis for international insurers.

A house call with examination, rapid test and first-line treatment typically costs between EUR 150 and 300, depending on time of day, day of week and diagnostic scope. Appointments in the evening, on weekends and on public holidays carry the surcharges defined in the GOÄ.
