Harburg, south of the Elbe

Harburg is Hamburg's only district south of the Elbe, home to roughly 170,000 people across Harburg, Wilstorf, Heimfeld, Eißendorf, Marmstorf, Hausbruch, Neugraben-Fischbek and the Süderelbe marshes. From the Harburger Berge hills in the south to the inland harbour in the north, we reach every Ortsteil typically in 60 to 90 minutes.

The clientele is mixed: students and researchers around TU Hamburg in Harburg and Eißendorf, families in the terraced-house estates of Marmstorf and Neugraben, older regular patients in Wilstorf and Heimfeld, plus commuters linked to the S3 line and the A1. Our house call service drives from our base in Bramfeld across the Elbe to you, so you never have to leave your home.

Typical conditions in the district

On house calls in Harburg we routinely see influenza-like illness, febrile respiratory infections, bronchitis and sinusitis, gastrointestinal infections, urinary tract infections, migraine, back pain and blood-pressure crises. Among older residents in Wilstorf, Heimfeld and Marmstorf we add heart failure, COPD and diabetes; among TU Hamburg students the picture is dominated by acute infections and exhaustion during exam periods.

When the trip to the doctor is too far

South of the Elbe, the journey to the emergency department of the Asklepios Klinik Harburg in Eißendorf is often hard for older or acutely ill patients, especially from Neugraben-Fischbek or Hausbruch. We come to you instead, examine on the spot and bill under the German medical fee schedule (GOÄ) through our private medical accounts office, on request directly with your private insurer or benefit office. That way treating the acute infection or blood-pressure crisis stays where it is easiest for you, at home.

Emergency? Dial the emergency number

If unconscious, with severe chest pain, breathlessness or heavy bleeding, dial 112 immediately. Our service complements the emergency services. It does not replace them.

Arrival and logistics in Harburg

From our base in Bramfeld we drive via the A1 and the Elbe bridges, or through the Elbtunnel to the A7, into Harburg; we reach every Ortsteil (Harburg, Wilstorf, Heimfeld, Eißendorf, Marmstorf, Hausbruch, Neugraben-Fischbek and Süderelbe) typically in 60 to 90 minutes. In the evenings and at weekends, when the Elbe crossing is clear, it is often quicker.

Parking in central Harburg around the Phoenix-Center and the Sand is tight, but Marmstorf, Eißendorf and Neugraben are relaxed. We factor it in. In the apartment blocks along the Harburger Ring and in Neuwiedenthal we ask for the bell number or an entrance code; in the single-family homes of the Harburger Berge we ask for brief directions when the house number is hard to find.

Availability

Hours and arrival time

RAB is available daily from 6 am to midnight, 365 days a year. In Harburg the typical arrival time is 60 to 90 minutes from the moment we accept the call; when you book we give you a concrete window for your Ortsteil, from Heimfeld to Neugraben-Fischbek.

The same medical expertise applies south of the Elbe. For the international students and researchers at TU Hamburg we deliberately allocate an English-speaking doctor where needed, so that diagnosis and sick note are linguistically secure.

Case profiles

Typical reasons for a house call in Harburg

Student near TU Hamburg

A student falls ill just before an exam with a high fever and sore throat in her shared flat in Heimfeld, near the TU Hamburg campus. We are there in about 80 minutes, examine, rule out bacterial tonsillitis, prescribe the appropriate therapy and issue a sick note for the examination office, in English on request.

Senior patient in Wilstorf

An 82-year-old patient with heart failure and difficulty walking in a flat in Wilstorf, for whom the trip to the Asklepios Klinik Harburg is too far. We drive to him, check blood pressure, oxygen saturation and leg oedema, adjust his medication and coordinate with the nursing service and his daughter.

Family in Neugraben-Fischbek

Two children with a simultaneous febrile gastrointestinal infection in a terraced house in Neugraben-Fischbek, the father also unwell. Instead of arranging three appointments at three practices, a doctor comes to the house, examines all three in turn and provides consolidated treatment including prescriptions and sick notes.

Commuter in Marmstorf

A commuter calls in the evening with an acute blood-pressure crisis and headache at his home in Marmstorf. We arrive within about 75 minutes, bring the blood pressure down under control, clarify the cause and bill directly with the private insurer through our private medical accounts office.
